A game of color & shape
Pattern King.
How to play
- Choose your goals. Take turns picking a face-up goal or drawing one face down until you each have six.
- Pick a tile card. Choose from the six shared cards or draw face down. Before choosing, you may tap Burn once to replace a card.
- Place your tile. Tap an empty hex, then Place tile. Change or clear a face-up card or board-space selection before placing. Face-down draws cannot be changed. Your face-up choices stay on this device until you place.
- Complete your goals. Match their colors, designs, and layout using any tiles on the shared board. Patterns can rotate or reflect, and goals can share tiles.
- Win on points. Each completed goal scores once. When the board is full, the higher score wins; equal scores tie.
Center tile: a random deck tile by default, or a full wild if chosen when creating the game. It keeps its original options throughout the game.
Read the symbols
Colors are blue, green, yellow, and red. Designs are triangles, polka dots, and stripes. These examples show what each tile can match.
This tile matches blue triangles.
This tile matches green dots.
This tile matches yellow stripes.
The full black-and-white pinwheel matches any color and any design.
The black-and-white background allows any color. This tile still needs to match dots, never triangles or stripes.
The small pinwheel allows any design. This tile matches red triangles, red dots, or red stripes.
Match red dots OR blue stripes. Each design stays with its colored half: red stripes and blue dots do not match.
Match yellow triangles OR green dots. Yellow dots and green triangles do not match.
Symbols cross the middle. Match red dots, red stripes, blue dots, or blue stripes: either design with either color.
Match yellow triangles, yellow dots, green triangles, or green dots. The centered symbols work with both halves.
A paired red-dots / blue-stripes tile can fill a red-dot hex in one goal and a blue-stripe hex in another. It cannot fill a red-stripe hex; the mixed version can.
Each tile fills only one hex per goal. Match all the other hexes and the layout to score that goal’s VP once. You can reuse tiles in other goals, choosing a different allowed pair each time.
Goal hexes use these same symbols. The board tile and goal hex need to share just one complete color/design pair. You do not choose a permanent color or design for a flexible tile.
See a completed pattern: tap a completed goal in My goals or Opponent’s goals. The borders of one matching set of board tiles will light up and fade. Goals can have several valid matches; any one earns the same points.
High Score · Single player
Choose Quickstart, then High Score. Draft 12 goals, with one optional goal burn before each pick. The board starts empty, including the center; place all 19 tiles yourself. You can also burn one tile card before each placement turn.
Restart asks for confirmation, then clears the board and score while keeping your 12 goals. It restores the original tile pool and exact draw order, undoing all tile burns and draws. Repeat the same choices to see the same cards again.
New game clears the board and goals, freshly shuffles both decks, and starts drafting again. No game ID is needed. Quickstart resumes your saved solo game in this browser.
New-game goal deck: 4 two-tile goals at 3 VP; 20 three-tile goals (12 flexible at 5 VP, 8 fixed at 6 VP); 4 four-tile goals at 8 VP; and 2 five-tile goals at 10 VP. Saved games keep their original cards and points.
